One of our favourite places is Masserof, tucked away in the beautiful Bernia mountains. It's unlike almost anywhere else in the Marina Alta.

Here, every meal is prepared over traditional wood fires.

No electric ovens.

No electric hobs.

Just fantastic local food, exceptional wines and an atmosphere that encourages you to stay a little longer.

Arrive early and you can explore the winery before lunch, sampling local wines and learning more about the valley's winemaking traditions. If you're lucky enough to visit during the grape harvest, you may even have the chance to experience traditional grape stomping—a wonderful celebration of one of the region's oldest traditions.

In winter, the roaring open fire and a glass of mulled wine make it one of our favourite places to spend a Sunday afternoon.
